Senate

Had a unique opportunity to cover my boss, Rear Adm. Cohen, as he presented testimony on the Department of Defense Science and Technology Budget and Strategy to the U.S. Senate Armed Services' subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities in the Caucus Room of the Russell Senate Office Building on March 9.
Cool job and another reason I made the move. Also photographed Sens. Dole and Clinton prior to start of testimony. Dole photo ran on Navy News, didn't transmit Clinton.

Online again

Well, at least back online at home. Cable TV and Cable modem, does it get any better than this? Now I just have to get the wireless network running and I'll be set. Even though my apartment is about the size of a large room, it will still be nice to be able to roam around.

X-Craft

I am posting from Whidbey Island, Wash., where I am covering my first major assignment for the Office of Naval Research, the christening of the X-Craft. Had a shot at the cover of Popular Mechanics today and sent some low-rez photos, but since the boat is still not in the water, they said they would opt for an artists rendition. So close. Later in the day I photographed the X-Craft from a 60' man-lift in order to get a semi aerial view, which I thought came out fine, so I forwarded it to Popular Mechanics just in case they change there mind.
Today is the christening ceremony and that probably means lots of grip and grins for me, but it is still shooting and maybe I'll get a chance to get something nice on the side.

Moving on

Well it has been almost two weeks since I gave notice to Philly.com. Today I signed and mailed the offer letter from Jorge Scientific Corporation with a start date of January 25. Just in case you haven't heard, I'm leaving Philly.com and Knight Ridder after eight years, and taking a job as a contract photographer with the Office of Naval Research (ONR). The Alligator expedition I photographed in August was for ONR, only that time I was on Active Duty.
This was a tough decision, but in the end, shooting photographs on a daily basis won out. I have been thinking a long time about shooting again and when this opportunity arose I couldn't pass it up.
Will post all new contact information when available.
